By now, I hope you’ve seen that a new show has been announced for October 17th in Greensboro.
You may be wondering what Haunted Heartthrob is really about, who this A"SHE"RAH is, and why you should care. All great questions, my love. So walk with me, talk with me.
Who is Asherah?
Asherah is the female name of God.
She was systematically erased from the Bible as patriarchy sought to wipe out the matriarchy and bury all echoes of her existence. But Her spirit remains. Asherah represents absolute balance and community. She is the living embodiment of every single iteration of what femininity has to offer.
Because of this, She represents the exact qualities that patriarchy still tries to erase in women today in an effort to keep us docile, complacent, underfoot, and subservient.
Redefining the Heartthrob
Haunted Heartthrob is a unique, unapologetic take on an age-old archetype.
When you hear the word "heartthrob," icons like Marilyn Monroe, Donna Summer, Lena Horne, and Selena might come to mind. These women exuded an undeniable essence of feminine authority, an essence that was, and still is, deeply frowned upon while simultaneously being intensely lusted after.
Haunted Heartthrob: Faces of Asherah is an invitation to dancers to explore two specific, powerful forces: Pleasure and Rage.
These are two emotions and expressions that have historically been forbidden to women. We are taught to suppress our pleasure and swallow our rage. No more.
We want to haunt the patriarchy and give them a spooky time like none other.
Step Into the Fire
I am inviting you to give me your absolute all and leave it all on the floor. I want your stories of full pleasure and your stories of rage. It's a purifying production!
Show Date: October 17th Greensboro, NC
Auditions Open: July 27th
It’s time to invoke every face of Asherah within you. Are you ready?
